If you follow iconic gaming industry figure Peter Molyneux on social media, you may have been surprised to see he announced his retirement from the video game industry alongside an announcement that Godus would be pulled from Steam. It turns out these announcements were false and Molyneux’s Twitter account was hacked.
The initial Tweets have since been taken down from Twitter, but essentially, the hacker(s) took to Molyneux’s account, posting several false statements on behalf of the Fable series game designer.
”Godus will be taken down from the Steam Store with immediate effect, thank you to all those involved,” the tweets claimed.”This is also the time I would like to announce my retirement from the games industry. It has been a long journey for me. Thank you.”
A final tweet stated that Molyneux considered Fable III to be his biggest mistake, claiming ”“it pushed me and my team to the limits.”
Peter Molyneux has since regained control of his account and rebuffed these statements, clarifying the situation:
Ahh my account has been hacked, ( you can tell cos they know how to spell) I am not retiring, not closing godus

Polygon confirmed with PR representative Colin Gallacher of Molyneux’s current studio, 22 Cans, that Molyneux’s Twitter had indeed been tampered with.
”Peter’s twitter account was the target of a hack,” Gallacher said in an email. ”The tweets posted were not by Peter himself and do not represent the views of Peter. Basically - Peter is not retiring and Godus is not being pulled from the store.”
22Cans successfully Kickstarted Godus a few years ago and the game has been in Steam Early Access since. It is not doing well in its ratings, but somebody must have taken special exception to the game to pull this kind of stunt on Molyneux and the Godus team.
