A few mysterious rumblings of a Metal Gear Solid V: Definitive Edition have surfaced, with retail listings appearing on Amazon Japan and a German retailer called NetGames. What exactly the package will consist of isn’t clear, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do some baseless speculation. It’s what the Boss would’ve wanted.
Realistically, it will bundle both the Phantom Pain and its prequel/prologue/demo/thing, Ground Zeroes, in a single package. Ground Zeroes was a terrific preview of the full game, with several hours of original content, but its price was too high and it would make way more sense as a package deal.
Metal Gear Solid V was one of the picks for our Game of the Year 2015!
There’s also a modicum of DLC for Metal Gear Online that could be included, including some skins, emotes, and the Cloaked in Silence pack which had a handful of new maps and brought Quiet to the game. I’m sure the Never Be Game Over folks are hoping that this means the restoration of the game’s lost ending and its rumored Chapter 3 content, but I’m afraid that dream is dead.
Despite some storytelling shortfalls for long-time series fans, Metal Gear Solid V is a hell of game, and a collected package of both Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes would be an excellent thing to have. Of course, we’ve yet to hear confirmation if it will come to PC, or even if it actually exists yet. We’ll keep you posted.
