Even though the title has yet to leave Early Access, Hi-Rez Studios has sent their team-based shooter Paladins out of the starting gate with the commencement of Season One.
Deciding a shooter should be more about the strategic elements of each player character rather than the teamwork aspect of out-playing the opposing squad, they've even announced a card-based customisation function.
Going forward, Radiant Chests can be bought using in-game gold with rewards now including Common, Rare, and Epic cards. Should any of these become duplicates, they'll be immediately exchanged for a pre-determined amount of 'Essense' that, when accumulated, can be turned in for exclusive Legendary cards that can completely overhaul any champion's usual handling. With each character able to equip 3 skill-changing Legendary cards at a time, it could take a little while to amass the complete collection for your hero of choice with each costing around 12,000 Essence.
Torvald Is The Latest Combatant For Paladins' On-Going Beta
Heading into Season One, those looking to test their strength, resolve and commitment to teamwork may find themselves trying out the new Survive gamemode. Not your average series of elimination rounds, this 'First To 5' victory lap has players slowly being forced into the centre of the map as an encroaching death fog creeps in all around. There's no re-spawning between rounds, so it's victory to whichever team managed to hold out the longest.
Paladins may still be in Early Access through Steam, but much like Hi-Rez Studios many other on-going projects, it's completely free-to-play.
