Paradox Interactive and Obsidian have announced Pillars of Eternity: Definitive Edition, the complete version of their old-school CRPG spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate. Along with the main game, all the DLC and both parts of the White March expansion, there will also be brand new content - and this will be free to all owners of the game when the Definitive Edition releases on November 15.

Here's the list of everything that'll be in the Definitive Edition:
- The main Pillars of Eternity game campaign, which we loved
- The White March expansions, Part 1 and Part 2 - which we also loved
- All DLC and extra content sold in every edition up to and including the Royal Edition, including original soundtrack, digital collector's book, an original novella set in the Pillars universe, a Making Of documentary, a Campaign Almanac and lots more
- The all-new Deadfire Pack DLC, which includes new in-game items to earn and discover, and new portraits from the forthcoming sequel, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, releasing in 2018
The last part is particularly interesting. This "Deadfire Pack" will be available to all owners of Pillars of Eternity for free, which is excellent news, but it's interesting that it's tying in to Pillars of Eternity 2 given that Paradox are not publishing that game.
It's also interesting that the price of the Definitive Edition will be $39.99/£29.99, which is a great price for such a colossal amount of quality RPG content - except that the current basic "Hero Edition" of the game is currently more expensive than that, and the current "Complete Edition" is a saber-rattling £74.99/$99.99. I wonder if Paradox will offer refunds to anyone who accidentally buys either of these between now and the Definitive Edition's release?
Still, the Definitive Edition is good news, and we're glad to hear there's no bad blood between Paradox and Obsidian over Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire. Pillars of Eternity: Definitive Edition will be out on November 15, as will the free Deadfire Pack DLC for existing owners. Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire will be out in 2018.
