So you’ve been enjoying Torment: Tides of Numenera right? It’s pretty great isn’t it? You may have heard of a powerful Cypher hidden behind a cryptic puzzle right at the beginning of the game in Sagus Cliffs, the Sphere and Pyramid Puzzle? It’s a real bugger that one. Well don’t you worry, your good pals at GameWatcher are geniuses and are here to help.
How to Solve the Sphere and Pyramid Puzzle in Torment: Tides of Numenera
Where is it?: In the Order of Truth building in the Protectorate area of Sagus Cliffs. Just at the back of the room is a mysterious red pyramid that you can examine.
What is it?: This puzzle gains you access to the ‘Dance of Sharp Angles’ Cypher, and it’s already had many gamers tearing their hair out. It gives you a cryptic clue then allows you to manipulate a Sphere, creating colours as it goes. There doesn’t appear to be any obvious solution and all your powers and knowledge mean nothing. This is a puzzle you’re going to have to think to solve. Eep. Well, or read on.
So what’s the solution?: The cryptic clue (above) and the colours the Sphere produces as you manipulate it are all you need. What thing to do with colours starts with Red (crimson dawn) and ends with Violet (violet dusk)?
Read on for full spoilers and the proper answer! And then a walkthrough, including video!
The answer is the common acronym for the colours of the rainbow: ROYGBIV. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet.
If you start inserting the Sphere in and out of the Pyramid, it changes colour. You can probably write down all the colours produced and how they’re created and then use the code above to solve it yourself, but if you’re short of time…
-
“Remove from Left Opening” creates Red, starting you off.
-
There are several oranges, but I used “Return via Right Opening” for Blazing Orange.
-
“Lift Frame and Remove via Bottom Opening” gets Yellow.
-
“Return via Back Opening” = Green.
-
“Remove via Back” = Blue
-
“Return via Bottom” = Indigo.
-
“Remove via Front Opening” gets Violet, and if you did it correctly the options should disappear.
You have now solved the puzzle and got the Cypher ‘Dance of Sharp Angles’! Here’s its description:
That’s pretty damn good, and cool, for something that can be easily (well, with real-life intelligence) picked up right at the beginning of the game. ‘Phased’ by itself is a useful Evasion power, and this adds an extra expendable ally too.
Still not sure? We’ve got a video too, just for you! Enjoy!
