April Fools has become a staple of the Game industry over the last few years with the date people often overlook become prime time for community managers to sneakily gauge the reception of a potential project or crush the hopes and dreams of its community with a sequel or feature they want but can never have.
On the other hand, however, some have taken to using it as a way to fake players out with a double bluff but announcing one update on April 1st and coming out with another just straight after. Much like Psyonix have done with Rocket League. Except this one actually came a day before - likely causing confusion as to whether this was their April Fools joke.
Using April 1 to announce some more radical changes to Ranked Play shortly after Season 4 offered a major shake-up, the trick wasn't fooling anyone. Instead, Psyonix revealed the latest almost obvious movie tie-in DLC with Fast & Furious 8 - The Fate of the Furious. Racking up 600,000 views in just under a week, it's clear Rocket League players are still after more cars.
A Letter From Psyonix's CEO Regarding The Recent Rocket League Outages
Landing on April 4, the DLC is now officially available, and while it isn't quite as robust an offering as past DLC deals, it's made in partnership with some very big names. Universal Pictures and Dodge made the pack possible bringing Dom Toretto's Ice-Charger to the varied arena of Rocket League's vehicular sport. Alongside the car, users will earn themselves Ice Charger premium wheels and six decals with some silly names. Clean Cut, Crazy Sandwich, Rally, CCCXL, Flames and Rakugaku. It's a fully customisation ride, too!
$1.99 is all it'll cost to grab the muscle car and all of its tweakable assets. It's out now, so go fire up Steam if you're looking to hype yourself up for the latest movie.
