In what has become something of an annual event, Riot Games have added several new character skins to the League of Legends 'Star Guardian' series of anime-inspired costumes. But they've taken things a step further this time around.
With Lux being the first to earn the magical girl status back in 2015, many more characters joined the alternate universe lore in 2016. With another year rolling around, the roster has grown greater still; but with much more fanfare.
This year's release of Star Guardian skins for Ahri, Ezrael, Miss Fortune, Syndra and Soraka means they're joining Lux, Poppy, Janna, Jinx and Lulu added through previous events. Taking heavy inspirated from anime like Sailor Moon, PreCure, Madoka Magika and CardCaptor Sakura, there's a full portal of lore over on the official League of Legends website at this point.

Not settling for just skins this year, the release brings a timed PvE event themed around the colourful heroes. Titled 'Invasion', this 5-player gamemode pits the newest Star Guardians against waves of enemies attempting to destroy the 'Starlight'. Due to its unique theme, the five Star Guardian skins are free-to-play within this specific gamemode - so everyone can get in on the vibe.
On top of that, there's an anime-styled trailer for the new Guardians, lots more lore on the website, and a few new pieces of merch up for sale - including some adorable mini-figures and an expensive jacket.
