Sonic Forces is out now, but a lot of people including ourselves have had problems with the game's cutscenes on PC. They stutter, lag, and are generally unwatchable - and that's only partly due to the acting. Well we've got an easy solution for this before SEGA (hopefully) roll out a patch!
Furthermore, we also fully tested Sonic Forces on a normal mid-range PC using all preset Graphics Settings, from Low to Ultra, so you can take a look and see what they look like - and how it runs. Details and video below!

The Easy Fix to getting the Sonic Forces cutscenes to play normally on PC is ridiculous, but we've tested it and it works. It is this:
Use Steam Big Picture Mode to Fix Cutscenes Stuttering
In the top right of the Steam client there's a little controller icon, which activates "Steam Big Picture Mode". You may never have used it, but it's to allow Steam to be used on a TV using a gamepad. Simply activate it, select and play Sonic Forces, and cutscenes SHOULD play normally. We were having this very problem and the solution worked for us, and lots of other people have reported it too - sadly not all, though. If you're still having the problem you might have to wait for a patch.
Now, on to the PC Performance Review!
TEST SYSTEM:
- OS: Windows 10 64-Bit
- Processor: AMD-FX 6300 Six-Core Processor
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4Gb
That's the specifications we used, which are certainly not bad but not epic. The graphics settings used are Low, Medium, High, and Ultra (which is basically High but with Shadows set to Ultra). The level is during the first Green Hill stage, which looks cool and has a lot going on. Here's the full Performance Test:
Even on Low settings the game still looks pretty good, and is certainly totally playable. Still, we couldn't imagine playing on anything too low, especially as we had no problems running the game all the way up to Ultra with no noticeable frame drops (and remember we were recording, too). We can confirm that we've played through about half of the game so far in full Ultra settings and have not experienced anything in the way of slowdown.
On the other hand, are you having problems running Sonic Forces? Did the cutscene problem get fixed with Big Picture mode or are you still having the issue? Let us know in the comments below!
