612 Games has today released the first gameplay footage for the highly anticipated Wild West Online, offering over five minutes worth of action on the upcoming PC-exclusive MMO westerner.
The new video offers a glimpse at some of the game’s environments and activities, plus a brief look at Wild West Online’s combat system. Things kick off with a quick look at the ability to customise your character before hopping into the action, which begins at the local train station. You can then venture out into the world and sink your teeth into a number of tasks, such as picking up bounties or hanging out at the local saloon.
Wild West Online looks set to offer an authentic Old West experience comparable to that of Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption, with players able to stay on the right side of the law as a Deputy or Bounty Hunter, or adopt a more unscrupulous streak and rob, cheat, and lie their way to victory and immense wealth.
Reputation is a key component in the game, as your actions will have direct consequences in the way your character is perceived by NPCs. Furthermore, you can opt to go it alone in the world or team up with a group of friends; spend the day exploring the wilderness with your companions looking for adventure, and then take it easy in the bar and gamble the evening away. Whatever you decide, Wild West Online gives you the freedom to live out your cowboy fantasy the way you see fit.
The project was initially set up to be funded via Kickstarter, although its reveal generated so much attention that a number of mystery investors were able to fully back the game without the need for crowdfunding. Those of you who are interested in the game can sign up for the Wild West Online alpha and beta session by pre-ordering it here.
