As expected, Funcom are focusing all their attention on the launch of Conan Exiles. Banking on the success of survival games, they're putting the franchise to use for the first time since their ill-fated MMO venture of Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures.
Without realizing it, we've reached Dev Blog #9 over on the official Conan Exiles blogpage. Simply penned by 'The dev team', this time, they're talking us through the lore of the Conan world of Hyboria.
While it may take place in a vast desert region for the most part, the world of Conan Exiles is said be anything but a baron sandbox. Following the death of the franchise's creator Robert E Howard, the world has gone on to further sculpt and shape the land with their own tales of adventure based around his original creation and expansive ideas. Taking place during the lifespan of Conan himself, Conan Exiles slots in between the stories of 'Xuthal of the Dusk' (The Slithering Shadow) and the 1934 novella 'A Witch Shall be Born'.
Ready For The Desert? Conan Exiles' System Requirements Have Been Revealed
Locked within the confines of the Exiled Lands thanks to a cursed bracelet jammed against your wrist, it's impossible to follow Conan across The Cursewall as he frees you from your crucifix during the opening moments of the game. Hearing of other exiles within the area, you begin to understand that you and your damned kin must either fight together or die alone in the harsh Exiled Lands.
The blog post goes into fine detail when it comes to the intricacies of the game world. Likely a good fit for those who find joy in coming across the lore caches of a game like ARK: Survival Evolved, it seems like a good fit for anyone either well accustomed to the Conan franchise or just a fan of survival games in general. Early Access kicks off January 31.
