Update: Following on from some off-screen footage of Sonic Forces being shown at the SXSW event last week, SEGA published the in-game capture.
You can now get 40 seconds of crystal clear Sonic Forces gameplay to whet your appetite for the full release later this year. The footage has replaced the cam video at the bottom of this post. Read on for the original piece.
Original Article: Though it may have been announced at Sonic's 25th Birthday celebration event last year, we still know relatively little about the tentatively titled Sonic Project 2017 - but we know a little bit more now.
Despite it being one of two major Sonic games announced last year - the other being Sonic Mania - while one has been playable at various events over the months, the latest 3D Sonic title has been shrouded in mystery.
Apparently shown off behind closed doors at SXSW last week, some sneak camera footage has slipped out of the event giving us our first - very blurry - look at what is now known as Sonic Forces. The footage itself was presented on a small screen to the side of the panellists giving the presentation at the time, with our heroic spy being situated on an unfortunate angle at the other side of the room. Despite the blur, we can understand that it is a 3D title more in-line with recent titles like Sonic Generations and Sonic Unleashed - minus the Night stages, for now.

Aside from this off-screen footage, it was revealed that Tomoya Ohtani would pen the game's soundtrack having worked on earlier titles like Sonic Unleashed, Chu Chu Rocket and Space Channel 5: Part 2. The game, like Sonic Generations, will feature both Modern and Classic Sonic gameplay modes, but we know relatively little aside from that.
Sega is expected to release the official footage later today. The full panel is down below, but skip just short of 53:00 to see the Sonic Forces segment. Sonic Forces is still scheduled to release sometime later this year on Steam with console versions appearing alongside it.
