11 bit Studios has announced that it will be publishing Children of Morta, the upcoming hack-and-slash roguelike from developer Dead Mage. To celebrate they've released a new trailer, which they've confusingly labelled an "announcement" trailer despite the game actually having been announced way back in 2014. 11 bit studios and Dead Mage are at last planning to release the game in 2018 and will show off the game at PAX West and Gamescom.

Children of Morta follows the adventurous Bergson family, who have guarded the mountain that they call home, Mount Morta, for generations. Now a corruption spreads throughout Morta and the Bergsons will have to venture out to defeat the dangerous monsters that now inhabit their home. The game is a hack-and-slash roguelike with gorgeously fluid pixel art similar to Hyper Light Drifter, except Children of Morta also has a focus on family ties, the characters of each of the Bergsons, and its own strong narrative. Each member of the family will offer something different, whether it's a different playstyle (adults will be stronger but slower, kids will be faster but weaker) or background help (the elder Bergsons run the workshop and allow you to craft better items).
11 Bit Studios, the developer of This War of Mine, is one of several stories of indie developers stepping into publishers to help their fellow developers, which includes the likes of Team 17 and Double Fine. Children of Morta joins 11 Bit's growing line-up, which includes Beat Cop, Tower 57, Moonlighter, and their latest in-house project, Frostpunk.
11 Bit have also announced that Children of Morta will be shown off at Gamescom next week and PAX West, so we'll be seeing more of the game very soon. It certainly looks like a gorgeous and compelling roguelike RPG with a neat family hook, so hopefully it'll play just as well.
Children of Morta will be out on PC, PS4 and Xbox One in 2018. You can see the new trailer below. Lovely isn't it?
