In light of the Toyko Games Show set to kick off later in the week, TECMO KOEI has unearthed some new Dynasty Warriors 9 details - the latest entry in their long-running 'Musou' sub-genre of beat em' up action games.
Typically focusing on singular elements of factions in past info drops, they're pulling out all the stops for today's Dynasty Warriors 9 announcements. There's a brand new trailer down below, and mention of its expanded combat system.
Now set to release early next year across consoles and PC, this is a Dynasty Warriors game for the masses. Bringing fan-favorite characters back into the fray, the latest trailer shows off the 'Three Kingdoms' narrative to show them running along new environments, running along the rooftops and scaling new heights (quite literally).

Alongside highlighting the characters, story and locations from the new game, the trailer attempts to introduce the main aspects of its new 'State Combo' fighting system put in place to add a little more strategy to your otherwise mindless button mashing Musou gameplay.
Flow attacks are move-set combos that react to the constantly changing parameters of an enemy's position to deliver a smooth, consistent attack. If they're knocked flying during a hit, you'll automatically strike with a relevant follow-up. Trigger Attacks which change the enemy's state will come into play here, while Reactive Attacks can range anywhere between counters, dashes and guard breaks.
While at first look, a trailer clocking in at under 2 minutes might not show all that much, players of these kinds of games will know just how fast-paced it really is. You can squeeze a lot of button presses into 101 seconds.
