Whether it's to bring in new blood or stress test some servers, everyone's invited to the Ghost Recon: Wildlands - Ghost War beta whether they have the base game or not.
Set to kick off in just a few hours, the Ghost Recon: Wildlands - Ghost War open beta is a free-to-access gamemode that finally introduces PvP to one of Ubisoft's most ambitious shooters. How a Ghost Recon game launched without PvP is a mystery, but it sounds as if fans made themselves heard.
Available on every platform the base game has attempted to conquer, PC players can use either Uplay or Steam to pre-load the 40GB game ahead of its imminent release. Eagle-eyed individuals have had since September 19 to start the download, but it hasn't gotten much media attention. If you happened to be part of the Closed Beta and kept the files on hand, you're looking at roughly half the download.

But what is Ghost Recon: Wildlands - Ghost War, exactly? It's a 4v4 team deathmatch mode which Ubisoft considers the 'ultimate PvP experience' - though we'll leave that to some post-launch opinions. With a focus on strategical firefights, 6 classes will be available during the Beta weekend, with more planned for launch and post-release. For now, you'll have access to the following;
You can click on any of the class links above to be taken directly to their info pages on Ubisoft's official pages. The first 5 maps will be available (with more planned for launch), but Ubisoft have made sure to say this is merely a 'chunk' of the full version. While progress won't carry over into the full game, participants will receive a few rewards. Streaming is also allowed, so if you're not playing this time around, you'll be able to watch others do it for you.
The Ghost Recon: Wildlands - Ghost War beta starts in around 25 minutes (11am BST) and lasts until Monday evening. If you need to know more, there's plenty of information posted over here. Search for it on Steam to start the download.
