In their latest Fig update, Double Fine revealed that Psychonauts 2 will sadly NOT be coming out in 2018 as originally estimated and will slip to 2019. To make up for this they'll be sending backer rewards out early, and have revealed details about main character Raz's circus family.

Double Fine were very apologetic about the slip, and had the following to say:
"We love the game we're making and we want to make sure that Psychonauts 2 is something you’ll love too — a game that carries on the legacy of Psychonauts in a meaningful and special way. We’re making great progress, but we want to make sure the game has the time it needs to shine.
We’re sorry that you’ll have to wait a little longer than we first estimated, but we’re also hopeful that you’ll understand it will mean being able to deliver a better game. We’re really excited about the things we’re making, and we can’t wait to share them with you!"
To make up for this delay Double Fine showed off some new characters - main character Raz's family, the acrobatic Aquatos. You can get the best look at these new characters in the Update video but they also posted some concept art and renders:
Their names, if you can't see in the picture, are parents Augustus and Donatella, Raz's older siblings Dion and Frazie, and younger siblings Mirtala and Queepie. Seems all pretty in keeping with the weird Psychonauts universe.
The video shows all the effort and thought that goes into designing characters in games. The wonderful Double Fine Adventure series of documentaries for Broken Age offered amazing insight into the development of videogames, and Psychonauts 2's videos seem to be going to the same way. We're all for that. Still, it's sad that we won't get the sequel to The Greatest Game Ever Made for over a year...
