Sonic Mania is out now on PC, and while the PC community screams about the Denuvo DRM clogging up the system the rest of the internet are being creative.
So creative in fact that they've invented a whole new Sonic character based on a mistake an artist made looking at a boss in Sonic Mania. Details below.

The Delayed Release Of Sonic Mania On PC Births Denuvo 'Always Online' DRM
Artist Alpha Gamboa, who's worked on the likes of Skullgirls and with Disney Interactive, saw the Bumper Spider Bot at the end of the Flying Battery Zone in Sonic Mania a little differently. In it Dr Eggman/Robotnik hangs upside-down and you can just see his head, but this artist didn't see Eggman. He saw an angry anime girl with big brown hair.

This character, described as Dr Eggman's niece, has now quickly taken on a life of her own, so much so we'll be astonished if the Sonic Mania developers and SEGA don't acknowledge her in future games. Loads of names have floated about, including Ovoid, Eggette, Omeletta, Yolki Dolki, although we're personally going to vote for Eggatha Robotnik.

And our personal favourite since we're huge geeky fans of the old "SatAM" Sonic The Hedgehog show:

Sonic Mania came out yesterday on Steam and is a fantastic game, although between doing Eggatha fan art the internet has been deeply troubled by the Denuvo DRM attached to the game, which was made worse by SEGA not being honest about its inclusion and how Sonic Mania PC cannot currently be played offline. SEGA are promising to fix this, but not to remove Denuvo. Expect many angry Steam reviews which are already happening.
As for Eggatha Robotnik, or Omeletta, or whatever you want to call Dr Eggman's new angry niece with a penchant for attacking hedgehogs with spider robots, guaranteed if there's a Sonic Mania 2 (and there will be, the game's selling like crazy and is a critical and fan darling apart from the DRM) she'll be in it somehow. Because the developers are fans. If they're geeky enough to include a nod to a Japanese Sonic popcorn machine in their game, they'll include a new internet-friendly character for sure.
