LeVar Burton, Geordi La Forge himself, joins Star Trek Online
Here's everything you could want to know about Star Trek Online!
Star Trek Online launched in February 2010, eight years ago next month. You can check out a video of the developers reflecting on this time here. To celebrate the upcoming anniversary Cryptic Studios have a range of events.
Any players who visit the game's C-Store between now and January 23 can participate in server-wide giveaways. Q in-game is giving away anniversary Party Poppers with fun effects, and Cryptic will be re-introducing Q's Omega Molecule Stabilization event that has players searching for Omega Molecules to redeem to get this year’s anniversary ship, the T6 Denorios-class Bajoran Interceptor.
Finally, there will be a new featured episode featuring LeVar Burton once again returning to play Geordi La Forge. Perfect World describes the action-packed episode:
"Beginning January 23, captains face their final battle in the war against the genocidal Tzenkethi. In the new featured episode “Scylla & Charibdis,” players must find a way to stop a new escalation by the Tzenkethi fleet that puts the entire quadrant in immediate danger. While warping from system to system in pursuit of the enemy, captains receive communication from Captain Geordi La Forge (voiced by LeVar Burton) that an unexpected ally has offered to help finally put an end to these deadly attacks."
We reviewed Star Trek Online when it came out, and while it undoubtedly had its problems we said "it's made a good opening move, and the content yet to come is set to make things even better... this is as fine a homage to one of Sci-fi's great franchises are you can get in an MMO format."
