Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios have officially announced that a new installment in the Mortal Kombat series, Mortal Kombat 11, is on the way. The title is scheduled to launch on April 23, 2019 on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
An announcement trailer was also released showcasing a fight between Dark Raiden and Scorpion while also teasing a new character said to be central to Mortal Kombat 11’s story. The fight is all CGI, but Mortal Kombat will make its gameplay debut on January 17 at Mortal Kombat 11: The Reveal.
Described as “a highly experiential, community celebration of Mortal Kombat”, the event will start at 11 am PST in Los Angeles and 7 pm GMT in London. Attendees will be able to go hands-on with Mortal Kombat 11, participate in tournaments and other activities. The event will also be livestreamed on the NetherRealm Twitch channel.
Mortal Kombat 11 makes use of a new graphics engine and will introduce the Custom Character Variation System, said to give players “unprecedented control to customize the fighters and make them your own”.
Mortal Kombat 11 is now available for pre-order with Shao Kahn acting as pre-order bonus. Two editions are available: the Standard Edition, priced at £54.99, and the Premium Edition, which costs £79.99 and comes with the base game and the Kombat Pack, which is yet to be detailed. Those who pre-order on PS4 and Xbox One will also have access to a Beta taking place in March.
