A leaked photo is the latest in a string of hints that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to get a battle royale mode sometime soon. The photo, since deleted from its original post on Reddit, suggests that the future release will be titled: Call of Duty: Warzone.
Notable is the inclusion centre-stage of a character with a skull mask similar to a character appearing in a recent trailer for Modern Warfare - Season 2. However - the title screen itself only refers to Call of Duty: Warzone and despite the apparent inclusion of characters from the recent trailer, there is at this stage no explicit connection between Warzone and Modern Warfare.
Call of Duty: Warzone Battle Royale
Other suggestions that a new Call of Duty battle royale game mode is coming soon have included teased screenshots and datamined maps.
Whatever the future for Warzone, this won’t be the first time that Call of Duty has ventured into the realms of battle royale. Black Ops 4 back in 2018 featured a battle royale mode called: “Blackout”. However, 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare did not include a battle royale mode.
For the moment, we only have a leaked (and subsequently deleted) photo to go on, and it remains possible that “Call of Duty: Warzone” remains only a rumour. We await further developments.
