April’s Fan Preview event brought with it a lot of new information about Age of Empires 4, revealing that a closed beta will give some fans a chance to play the title before its launch later this year.
Age of Empires 4’s closed beta was, however, not the main focus on the event. Instead, we got a good look at how the upcoming title plays. There’s plenty of familiar elements that fans of the series will surely recognize, alongside new additions like asymmetric civilizations and languages that evolve as you progress through the ages.
But what about the Age of Empires 4 closed beta start and end dates? While they’re still kept under wraps at the moment, it’s safe to assume that they’ll occur prior to the game’s release date. Publisher Xbox Game Studios and developer Relic Entertainment said that they’ll “have more to share about the Beta in the near future.”
We do, however, know that in order to be eligible for the AoE 4 closed beta, you’ll need to sign up to the Age Insider program. If you’ve previously participated in betas for any of the classic games’ Definitive Editions, you should be fine, but it’s worth checking again on the Insiders section of the game’s website. That also happens to be where you sign up, if needed.
While we wait for more details, here is the list of playable civilizations revealed thus far for the latest entry in the series, alongside more on the game’s first of four campaigns.
