Age of Empires IV’s first gameplay trailer was shown off during the XO19 event but it’s unlikely that the RTS will release prior to 2021, according to a recent rumor.
Announced back in 2017, Age of Empires IV has kept quite the low profile until this year’s gameplay reveal, which gives the 2021 release rumor at least some credibility.
Age of Empires 4 2021 Release
“Age Of Empires IV is currently aiming (sic) a 2021 release.”, ResetEra user FairyEmpire writes. According to the information they gathered from developers during the XO19 event in London, the title has been in development “for about 3 years” now.
The Age of Empires IV gameplay revealed at XO19 was labeled as pre-alpha, which does indeed suggest that the title is still in early stages of development. Since that looks very likely to be the case, a 2021 release date wouldn’t necessarily be a surprise.
Another interesting bit of information the user offered regarded the “Age of Empires 3 remake” which they state is “currently planned for mid-2020”. Since they’re most likely referring to the Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition announced back in 2017, this, again, could be likely.
Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition was released a few days ago, on November 14, and a remake of the third main entry in the series with that timing would fill the gap between it and Age of Empires IV.
