Publisher and developer Innersloth has announced that it is canceling Among Us 2 and shifting focus entirely on the original.
Among Us saw a recent surge in popularity, tons of players flocking to it. This, unfortunately, resulted in frequent server issues.
“The main reason we are shooting for a sequel is because the codebase of Among Us 1 is so outdated and not built to support adding so much new content. However, seeing how many people are enjoying Among Us 1 really makes us want to be able to support the game and take it to the next level. We have decided to cancel Among Us 2 and instead put all our focus into improving Among Us 1.” reads a post on itch.io.
Among Us 2 Canceled
Among Us 2’s cancelation means that all the content planned for the sequel will now be added to the original.
“This is probably the more difficult choice because it means going deep into the core code of the game and reworking several parts of it.”
A good chunk of development time is going towards fixing the Among Us servers who’ve had a tough time keeping up with the influx of new players.
Other future plans include colorblind support, a friends and account system alongside a new Henry Stickmin-themed stage that’s currently in early development.
Among Us is now available on PC and mobile.
