Players have been left wondering if there’s any potential Astro Bot PC release date, especially with all the review scores now out in the open after the embargo lifted. Will Sony release Astro Bot on PC? It’s currently a PS5 exclusive.
Historically, the likelihood of an Astro Bot PC release would have seemed improbable, as exclusives have traditionally remained within the PlayStation ecosystem for most of their lifespan. However, as PlayStation 5 approaches its 5th year, there are increasing numbers of exclusives being released on the PC.
What do we know about an Astro Bot release on PC?
Unfortunately, Sony hasn’t said anything about a PC release date for Astro Bot as of yet, making it challenging to predict when it might break free from the confines of console exclusivity. Astro Bot releases for the PlayStation 5 on the 6th September, 2024 and while it’s possible we may see it released on PC, we don’t think it will happen for Asbro Bot like other PS5 exclusives
There are several reasons for this, but the main one is that Asbro Bot is deeply tied to the history of the PlayStation 5, making it a natural fit for that platform. Astro Bot takes full advantage of the PS5’s haptic feedback capabilities across multiple levels, which could be challenging to replicate on PC.
There is a little bit of hope about a PC Release though, and it comes from Team Asobi studio director Nicolas Doucet in an interview with Minnmax. Doucet says that it wants to hear from PC players who are interested in playing Astro Bot.
“We want to hear from you. Absolutely. We want to hear from you,” said Doucet early into the interview when asked about PC.
PlayStation 5 exclusives don’t normally release on PC until at least two years after they’ve been launched on the home platform.
In an interview from May 2023 with Famitsu, translated by ResetEra, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan suggested that, while PC ports remain part of the company’s strategy, they may continue to launch years after the PS5 versions.
“We also fully understand the importance of PS5 exclusive titles. As I mentioned earlier, PlayStation Studios’ main responsibility is to have people enjoy the game experience using the latest PS. We are increasing the number of PS5-exclusive titles and staggering the release of the PC version,” Ryan said.
“I often have the opportunity to ask game fans for their opinions, and when I ask them about the time lag, they say that selling the PC version two or three years after the release of the PS version is accepted favorably.”
Next up on PC? God of War Ragnarok in September. We will keep watching to see if anything happens for Astro Bot.
