With the start area in the south and spread out settlements across the map, trading opportunities will be limited. Good stats and perks on your company should make up for it and enable good progression via quest, if you keep them alive for long enough. Main exploration route is to the east.

Starting far up north, Arasted and Ravestad will supply you with fur and copper for early trading, should you choose to be a trader. With a bit harsher approach to the north and thinly spread out settlements, it will be en effort to keep it as a base of operations. More trade routes with amber and copper can be found far to the south. Main exploration route is to the east. You will start almost cut off in the north west area. However, good trading opportunities awaits you across the map with well connected settlements and supply of goods. West coast features a chain of ports if you build up coins to travel by boat. Exploration area is to the east.
