Publisher Electronic Arts and developer Dice today announced that Battlefield 2042’s standalone short film Exodus will premiere next week. Although details remain scarce, it seems to focus on the events leading up to the conflict depicted in the game, likely shining the spotlight on the No-Pats at the center of the war between the US and Russia.
As the Earth’s climate deteriorates, people see themselves forced to leave their homes and countries in search of safer places, which is what gives birth to Battlefield 2042’s No-Pats. Given the lack of a traditional single-player campaign, this could be our first look at the series’ new approach to storytelling, although we’ll have to wait until August 12 to see.
“Witness the events that will trigger an all-out war in this standalone short film set in the World of 2042,” reads the Exodus short film’s description, while the tweet from the official Battlefield account mentions “unpacking the world of Batlefield 2042.”
Starting tomorrow, August 3, we’ll also get a look at “the locations of Battlefield 2042 through the eyes of embedded journalist Kayvan Bechir,” according to a follow-up tweet, so it definitely sounds like a new round of juicy details about EA’s upcoming first-person shooter is on the way.
It’ll be interesting to see how the narrative will evolve over the game’s seasons. Perhaps, with a bit of luck, we’ll also learn more about how it plays. So far, we’ve learned about some of the vehicles we can control, weapons we’ll wield, as well as Battlefield 2042’s take on classes.
The Exodus short film will premiere on August 12, at 8 AM PDT/4 PM CEST.
