Beyond a Steel Sky is what Beneath a Steel Sky 2 has turned out to be, and to everyone's surprise, the game's just been announced as part of Apple Arcade's upcoming line-up of premium game exclusives.
In a curious twist, Beyond a Steel Sky will be making its way to iOS, and will be playable on a wide range of Apple hardware, including iPhones, Macs, and, presumably, iPods from 2001. However, the developers also announced that the game will be making its way to PC before the end of the year, too, along with consoles.
Beyond a Steel Sky will come featuring full 3D environments and a snazzy over-the-shoulder camera, the combination of which will offer a markedly different experience than what we last saw in 1994's Beneath a Steel Sky.
The game will also feature lovely cel-shaded graphics, and what seems to be a fairly impressive and atmospheric game world. Robert Foster, the protagonist of the first game, will also be making a return in an attempt to explore the society as it is seen through the lens of social control and limited privacy.
Even though the way that the Apple representative worded things made it sound like Revolution Software is unlikely to make Beyond a Steel Sky available on other platforms, it has since been confirmed that the game will, in fact, also see a PC and console release. Beyond a Steel Sky is expected to be released at the end of 2019.
Dave Gibbons is back to help work on the story and artwork too, which is really good news. We'll bring you more on Beyond a Steel Sky as we get it.
