Bioshock 4’s release date is on the minds of many fans who’re looking forward to the next entry in the acclaimed series. After former developer Irrational Games closed its doors in 2014, publisher 2K announced five years later that a new studio – called Cloud Chamber – is handling development of the upcoming title.
Bioshock 4’s exact nature has largely been kept under wraps, no information having been shared thus far from official sources. When it was announced, the publisher made it clear that the project will stay in development “for the next several years.” As 2021 comes to a close, a first set of details about the game and its potential release date have been leaked.
Bioshock 4 might go by the name Isolation, according to information shared by Twitter user OopsLeaks, although it’s possible that its title might change. The game is reportedly set to be revealed at some point in Q1 2022 but “will be developed for a few more years.”
- Bioshock 4 release date: No sooner than 2023
The leaker claims that Bioshock Isolation is developed using Unreal Engine 5, by a team of developers who previously worked on games such as Watch Dogs: Legion, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Mafia 3, and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
It will feature a large open world, focusing on a linear main story and multiple side quests. The title will also have a faction system and, according to a leaked slide reportedly used when it was pitched, focus on two cities: one above, the other below ground.
The first city is described as a “free and wealthy society lead by a successful entrepreneur,” while the second is led by a dictator waging a “vertical war.” A “flipside zone” is also mentioned.
Books such as China Miéville’s “The City and the City”, Gregory David Roberts’ “Shantaram”, and the Citizen Kane movie are said to have inspired the game.
Like with any leak, it’s worth taking all of the above details with a grain of salt. The leaker themselves say that the game’s title and logo might end up changing.
Bioshock 4’s release date was previously spotted in 2021’s GeForce Now leak, where it was simply listed as “Bioshock 2022,” which could have been a placeholder.
It’s difficult to pin down Bioshock 4’s release date without an official announcement but, hopefully, we’ll learn more from 2K and Cloud Chamber in the near future.
