Is it possible that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023) will include a Zombies game mode? Fans of the franchise may recall that this mode first emerged in 2008 with the release of Call of Duty: World at War. It has since made multiple appearances in various titles within the franchise.
Fortunately, recent leaks have hinted at the presence of a Zombies mode in Modern Warfare 3, which could potentially be made available when the game launches on 10th November for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Let’s hope it will become available on Xbox Game Pass, so we can play it with friends across multiple platforms using crossplay.
Will Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 have a Zombies Mode?
Activision has confirmed that a zombies mode will appear in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, saying it will feature “the largest Zombies offering to date.” More details will be revealed at the Shadow Siege Event, which is commencing this evening at precisely 10:30 a.m. PT - 1:30 p.m. ET - 6:30 p.m. BST - 7:30 p.m. CEST.
There have been some fairly accurate leaks from Insider Gaming claiming that a Zombies mode is planned for COD MW3. The mode is reportedly being referred to as “Outbreak 2.0,” a sort of spiritual successor to the mode first introduced in 2020’s Black Ops Cold War.
The issue is that we currently don’t know whether this mode will launch with the game or arrive later as an update with the first season, reportedly coming in December, according to the leaks. The information also suggests that Activision is “weighing the possibilities” regarding whether to integrate the mode into the main title or release it as a standalone experience.
How can we anticipate how Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3’s Zombie mode will play upon its release? It seems likely that it will draw significant inspiration from Black Ops’ Outbreak mode. This suggests a classic open-world horror experience with the familiar horde formula blended in.
Perhaps we’ll see the traditional elements of barricading windows and taking chance rolls on the Mystery Box to obtain the Ray Gun. Alternatively, gameplay might involve battling through unrelenting zombie hordes, constantly on the move, and exploring the map to gather Aetherium Crystals to enhance weapons and equipment.
Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games are primarily recognised for incorporating the Zombie mode into their iterations of Call of Duty, though Infinity Ward also introduced it in Infinite Warfare back in 2016.
Sledgehammer and members of the Treyarch team are once again involved in the development of 2023’s Modern Warfare 3. It’s possible that Treyarch may take the helm in crafting the Zombie mode, while Sledgehammer focuses on developing the core game.
The Makarov Reveal Trailer will be going live for COD MW3 today, although we don’t expect to see any details or confirmation of the Zombies mode within it, we will keep you updated should we hear anything about it. You can watch this trailer below later today.
