Call of Duty: Warzone has opened the gates to Verdansk for eager players, however, some have reported crashes that led to a dialogue box stating that DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error. But what is the cause of the issue and is there a fix for it?
Here’s everything we know about Call of Duty: Warzone’s DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error issue and whether or not there’s a fix for it.
Call of Duty: Warzone DirectX Encountered an Unrecoverable Error Fix
We have good news for a portion of people encountering Call of Duty: Warzone’s DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error issue.
Reddit user PREFIXS has discovered one potential cause for crashing which leads to the “DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error” message.
In their case, the issue was caused by RTSS (RivaTuner Statistics Server) being active at the same time as the game. The solution is as simple as turning off the program, which in their case involved setting its application detection level to none.
If you’re also running RTSS or any similar programs, it’s worth shutting them down before you start playing Call of Duty: Warzone.
That being said, other players bumping into crashes and the “DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error” message are not using the RivaTuner Statistics Server program or any of its peers. In their case, there doesn’t yet seem to be a fix for the issue.
Players are reporting that disabling the DirectX Raytracing option in the Shadow & Lighting section of the Options menu can help, although, again, it doesn’t seem to be a solution that works for everyone.
While developer Infinity Ward has yet to provide a fix for the DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error issue, the Activision Support Twitter account has set up a form where players can report the crashes they experience while playing Call of Duty: Warzone.
