CD Projekt Red is working on a new IP codenamed Project Hadar, parent company CD Projekt revealed during its recent strategy update, which also outlined plans for the future of The Witcher franchise.
The new IP is “being incubated entirely within CD Projekt Red,” according to Michał Nowakowski, Board Member responsible for business development. Early-stage conceptual work for Project Hadar began in 2021.
CD Projekt Red New IP
This is major news for the Polish developer who previously relied on third-party IP like The Witcher or Cyberpunk for its sprawling, open-world RPGs.
“It is important to understand that we are not making a game just yet,” Nowakowski added. “We are working on the foundation of this new setting.”
This is the full extent of what was shared regarding Project Hadar. Since foundational aspects of CD Projekt Red’s new IP are still being fleshed out, it’s safe to assume that we won’t see a game based on it anytime soon.
Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how the studio’s own IP will measure up to the two big names on which its existing games are based.
As part of the company’s strategy update, it also revealed that it is now open to working with third-party developers, as well as exploring opportunities to bring its IP to new mediums, following the success of the recently-released anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
