For several years, Petroglyph has been annually updating its classic Star Wars RTS, Empire at War, with performance patches to address various issues and improve frame rates. This year, they’ve released another update, this time rectifying a bug that occasionally caused the game to crash when Chewbacca attempted to capture an AT-ST, or any other vehicle for that matter during land battles.
Empire at War has maintained a steady player base over the years, consistently reaching peaks of over 2000 users on any given day, largely thanks to this support from Petroglyph and the modding community.
It’s clear to see that the RTS market is underserved at the moment, but we have had some good releases so far this year with, Age of Mythology: Retold, 9-Bit Armies: A Bit Too Far and Godsworn. We have Tempest Rising, Battlefall: State of Conflict, and Global Conflagration on the watchlist, but of course, we would love to see more. EA is said to be working with Bit Reactor on a Star Wars strategy game using Unreal Engine 5.
It’s always nice to jump back into the old classics though, so let’s take a look at the full patch notes to see everything that was changed with this new “Maintenance Patch”.
