Publisher 2K and developer Firaxis Games today announced that Civilization 6’s New Frontier Pass will conclude with a bang as its final DLC, the Portugal Pack introduces one of the community’s most requested civilizations, the new Zombie Defense mode, alongside the Wetlands map script, and more.
Portugal stands out among Civilization 6’s expansive roster of nations thanks to its focus on maritime exploration and trade. Although most of the juicy details were kept for a future deep dive, Portugal also inspired one of the two new world wonders coming with the March 2021 Update – the Torre de Belém.
Once built on a coast tile adjacent to a Harbor district, it grants additional gold and Great Admiral points while proving bonus gold per Luxury Resource at the destination of international trade routes. On top of that, it also gives any city you own on a different continent a free building.
Inspired by Babylon, the new Etemenanki Wonder grants a flat bonus to Science each turn alongside additional Science and Production on all the Floodplains tiles in its city and all the Marsh tiles in your empire.
Civ 6’s Portugal Pack DLC also introduces the new Wetlands map script. Covered in marshes, it comes with its own set of challenges, as Marsh tiles reduce unit speed, rendering them vulnerable to ranged attacks. Lastly, Zombie Defense is also coming as an optional mode, giving units slain in combat a chance to return with a particular hunger for the brains of those who still cling to life.
Zombies attack any nearby non-zombie units with reckless abandon. Should they win the fight, the living will have new zombie units to deal with. Players can place new Trap and Barricade improvements in both friendly and neutral territory to damage zombie units that pass through or come near them.
Players also gain access to new city projects in Zombie Defense that allow them to temporarily control the undead who crossed their city limits. Controlled zombies can be used as a direct weapon against your enemies or simply moved outside of your territory, in hopes that someone else’s brains will appear tastier once you lose control of them.
The Portugal Pack is set to launch on March 25 and will be available for all owners of Civ 6’s New Frontier Pass. Alternatively, you can also purchase it separately for the price of £3.99 or your regional equivalent. The season’s final free update will be revealed next month.
