After wrapping up Wasteland 3, developer inXile Entertainment shifted focus to a different project, which was revealed during 2023’s Xbox Games Showcase as first-person RPG Clockwork Revolution. Treading new ground with its change in perspective and cyberpunk world, its release date is, understandably, a matter of interest for both fans of the genre and the studio.
The game also promises time traveling shenanigans, which could potentially open things up when it comes to the choices we can make as players. As we wait to get our hands on Clockwork Revolution, here is everything we know about it, including details about its release date, story, and more.
Clockwork Revolution Release Date
Clockwork Revolution didn’t receive a release date when it was initially revealed in 2023. Currently listed as “to be announced,” it is looking likely that we won’t hear more about one or get to play the game until at least 2024, if not later.
Clockwork Revolution Story
Clockwork Revolution’s story is set in Avalon, a “vibrant steam-powered metropolis” created through the power of time travel and the alteration of historical events.
It’s a city where “steam trains fly overhead, wealthy industrialists replace their limbs with ornate clockwork prosthetics, and mechanical servants fulfill their masters’ every whim,” according to the developer.
Although we don’t know much about how the actual narrative will unfold, it does center around the ruthless Lady Ironwood, who despite being the architect of this era, is “keeping the working class struggling in the slums and factories, while bringing herself immense wealth and power.”
Clockwork Revolution Gameplay
In Clockwork Revolution, the player character also has access to the power of time travel, thanks to a device called the Chronometer.
Able to travel back in time, we can influence the past before returning to the present and experiencing the effects of our decisions.
These choices “change the people, the stories, and the city of Avalon itself in extraordinary and (very often) unexpected ways,” the developer aiming to push “roleplaying reactivity to new heights.”
The first revealed trailer teases the ability to undo destruction and drastically change the mood of Avalon. In addition, it looks like we’ll face off against both human and automaton enemies.
Clockwork Revolution Platforms, Price, and Where to Buy
Clockwork Revolution is currently aiming to release on PC, via Steam, alongside Xbox Series X/S, via the Microsoft Store. Its price remains unknown for the time being.
