Cozy Grove revolves around completing a set of daily tasks to push its story forward and learn more about the friendly ghost bears you meet along the way. As days pass, you’ll unlock Birds and Deer which you’ll need to know how to feed.
Cozy Grove Birds and Deer are, essentially, pets of sorts. You can place them down around the island and they’ll instantly improve the look of an area. If you know how to feed them and keep them happy, you can also get rewards like essence or eggs.
You’ll get your hands on your first Bird fairly early in Cozy Grove and can obtain more from Mr. Kit, the first trader you meet on the island. Deer come into play later on, as either a quest reward and when you buy Mr. Kit’s store upgrade that costs 400,000 old coins.
Both let you know what type of food they desire through thought bubbles that appear above their heads. Sometimes it’s something as simple as Mixed Greens, but they will also ask for baked food fairly often. This is where how to feed Birds and Deer in Cozy Grove gets a tad tricky.
On the one hand, it involves a bit of trial and error. The icons aren’t accompanied by tooltips, so you may have to burn through a couple of items before discovering that your feathery pal wanted roasted vegetables all along. On the other, some baking recipes require rarer ingredients or ones that are also used in quests.
Two of our birds really want Salad, which we can’t craft because the RNG gods seem to have made onions go extinct in our playthrough. In cases like these, patience is, really, the only solution. It might take a while, but your birds will eventually get what they want. They also won’t complain about having to wait.
Once you have the desired food item, either equip it in your hand slot and throw it towards your pet or, if you’d rather avoid being really rude, walk up next to it, press the interact button (E by default), then click Feed. The latter option is objectively better not just because it makes you a better person, but also due to how you’ll be in range to get your rewards.
Feeding Birds and Deer in Cozy Grove isn’t the only thing you need to keep in mind when looking to get essence. Each type of creature likes and dislikes certain decorations, so you’ll want to keep it happy by placing it in an environment that it enjoys.
