Crusader Kings 3’s Royal Court DLC will let players craft and equip their rulers with powerful artifacts, gaining bonuses and looking slightly more imposing in the process. Since you may amass quite a pile of precious items over the course of a playthrough, today’s dev diary 80 focuses on the inventory system, which keeps things neatly organized for you.
Crusader Kings 3: Royal Court will feature five categories of artifacts – crown, regalia, weapon, armor, and trinkets –, its inventory system clearly showing how many of each your ruler can wear as well as helping you keep track of those you have equipped. Better yet, you can sort your available items by category, when you’re looking to quickly fill up a slot or check which artifacts to prioritize for repairs.
An artifact’s history, bonuses, and durability can be reviewed in its details screen, where you’ll also find the list of characters with claims to it. Having a claim on an artifact allows characters to duel for it, declare war, or attempt to steal it.
The artifacts your ruler wears lose durability over time, as opposed to those displayed in the court. While you can extend the lifespan of important items by only wearing them when you really need their bonuses, the Antiquarian can help you reforge, repair, or even commission artifacts.
A shortcut in the top left corner of the inventory screen’s main window lets you easily access your current Antiquarian or recruit one, if the position happens to be empty.
The Commission Artifacts lets you ask a local artisan to craft an item whose type you choose, but has some caveats when compared to those crafted by inspired people.
“[…]in gameplay terms, […] inspired people can create artifacts of higher quality while the commission artisans will do the bare minimum and therefore be of the lowest quality,” dev diary 80 reads.
Crusader Kings III: Royal Court is now slated to launch at some point in 2022, likely alongside patch 1.5, after it was delayed last week.
