CD Projekt has confirmed that a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is on the way. The announcement was made as the company detailed its long-term product strategy, which includes a new The Witcher trilogy and more.
Going by the codename Project Orion, the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is said to “fully unleash the potential of the Cyberpunk universe.”
Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel
The title will be developed by CD Projekt Red North America, a new studio comprised of the company’s growing Vancouver team and a new team that will be based in Boston.
The Molasses Flood, another Boston-based studio owned by CD Projekt, will not be involved with the sequel, as it is developing its own The Witcher project, separate of the trilogy mentioned above.
Sadly, that’s where the details surrounding Project Orion end at the moment. There’s a good chance it will be a long while before we’ll get to play the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.
To tide us over, the original game’s first and only expansion, Phantom Liberty is set to launch at some point in 2023, so we’ll at least have something to tide us over for a while.
The success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners translated into a lot of newfound hype for Cyberpunk 2077, which saw players returning to it in droves.
CD Projekt Red has supported the game with multiple post-launch updates, addressing some of its issues, but with a sequel on the distant horizon, it’s absolutely vital that Project Orion does not repeat the mistakes of its predecessor.
