Co-op FPS Deep Rock Galactic is adding two new biomes, new monsters and more for its rowdy, beer-drinking dwarf miners next month, publisher Coffee Stain Publishing and developer Ghost Ship Games today announced. Having locked down its release date to February 4, Update 33 also adds new elements to certain mission types, dance moves and, most importantly, a free hat.
Azure Weald is the first of two biomes coming with Deep Rock Galactic’s Update 33. Described in an emailed press release as “visually stunning, with dazzling, bioluminescent clusters of lichen lighting up the darkness,” it also introduces the Mactera Tri-Jaws and Mactera Brundle as new threats for any miner attracted by its beautiful lights and many riches.
Said to be “a much more dark, gloomy and organic affair, resembling the inside of hollow trees,” Hollow Bough also has its set of devious enemies. Where the Deeptora Bough Wasps attack in swarms, its Stabber Vines wait in the undergrowth, striking at careless miners.
Deep Rock Galactic’s Update 33 also adds two new Dreadnought variants to Elimination missions, in the shape of the Dreadnought Hiveguard and “monster twins” Dreadnought Arbalest and Lacerator.
Salvage missions now add the locations of the broken M.U.L.E’s legs to the terrain scanner once you’ve interacted with it, streamlining the process of finding them, while also allowing you to connect fuel cells to drop pods. Point Extraction is the last mission type to get some love in Update 33, through the addition of a new model of the Minehead machine.
If you stream Deep Rock Galactic, you’ll find 8 new tracks that won’t get you any of those pesky copyright strikes. New dance moves are also on the way, as well as a new trade terminal UI and new animation for when Molly docks at the Drop Pod.
Lastly, to thank players for voting Deep Rock Galactic in the Steam Awards, a free hat will be up to grabs when Update 33’s release date comes around. A paid cosmetic DLC will also accompany the free update, introducing a set of Dreadnought-themed armor for every class.
