With the latest mid-season patch for Diablo 4 now deployed, Blizzard has shared the first details regarding season 7’s theme and content, revealing that it will be centered around witchcraft.
Although it didn’t commit to a release date for D4’s season 7 itself, we won’t have to wait too long before trying everything out, since, for the first time, seasonal content is headed to the public test realm.
Diablo 4 Season 7 Release Date - Latest News
- Release Date - Q1 2025
- End Date - TBA 2025
Familiar to anyone who’s played the game’s second season, borrowed power mechanics are returning. In practice, this means that as we level our characters, we’ll collect a new currency called Restless Rot by defeating seasonal Headrotten enemies.
During Diablo 4’s season 7, we can offer this currency at witches’ altars which then lets us spend it in the new Witchcraft menu.
Echoing season 2’s vampiric powers, this menu features 5 normal and 1 unique slot where we can equip unlocked powers while also allowing us to upgrade them using restless rot.
D4’s season 7 promises more than 20 powers that effectively add another layer of customization to our builds.
Four were shown during the November 2024 campfire chat, which you can find embedded below, including a Poison Frog servant that poisons enemies when it attacks, pulls them in, and taunts them. Upon death, it also explodes dealing large amounts of poison damage.
Spread across the world, we’ll also find forgotten altars that allow us to unlock powerful lost powers.
Much like its predecessors, Diablo 4’s season 7 introduces a new reputation track that sees us gathering Coven’s Favor by completing Whispers.
Reaching certain reputation ranks unlocks different Witchcraft powers while completing all tiers gets us a Resplendent Spark that can be used when crafting random or select mythic items.
D4’s season 7 remains tributary to the second season by introducing Headhunts, a Helltide-style activity.
Periodically, the Tree of Whispers highlights areas of the world infested by Headrotten. There, we’ll find a large number of foes as well as new and old Whispers which, when completed, offer the usual rewards and a chance to face a Headrotten boss.
Defeating these bosses and delivering their heads to the Tree of Whispers enables us to earn Occult Gems.
Fitting only into slotted into sockets on jewelry items (amulets and rings), they provide unique effects “that help fine-tune” our build. Better yet, each gem has built-in defenses, granting both armor and resistance to all elements.
Since we’ll be visiting the Tree of Whispers a whole lot during Diablo 4’s Season 7, the area will have its layout updated to make it easier to navigate.
In addition, it also features more vendors, while the Raven of the Tree appears in every Headhunt zone, allowing us to turn in Grim Favors on the spot, saving us lots of time otherwise wasted traveling back and forth.
Furthermore, ancestral caches have been added to the Tree’s rewards pool. Although they have a low chance of appearing, picking them guarantees getting an ancestral item, vital during the endgame.
The season doesn’t sound particularly innovative on its own, rehashing fun mechanics we’ve already seen before while giving them a new coat of paint, but the surrounding balance changes and quality of life features coming in patch 2.1, which include the Armory, sound very promising.
We’ll likely learn more about Diablo 4’s Season 7 features and release date over the coming months. Provided the PTR goes smoothly, there’s a good chance the season will go live at some point early next year.
