Doom 64 may soon be getting an official PC release, if its latest PEGI listing and rating are anything to go by (they are). For the uninitiated, this special version of the original Doom is - in fact - an almost entirely different game. Better, according to some.
Launched on Nintendo 64, this build of Doom surpassed the first PC version in virtually every way, featuring much-improved sprites, gameplay mechanics, and general atmosphere. Now, this version of Doom will launch on PC and PlayStation 4, it seems.
Of course, it is arguable whether Doom 64 really is better than the actual, original Doom, but it sure would be nice to have access to an official PC port, for those of us who take interest in such things.
Either way, PEGI has rated Doom 64 for both PC and PlayStation 4, in addition to the Doom and Doom 2 ratings. No word of a Nintendo Switch release, which is pretty odd, considering the game’s origins.
Regardless, it may well be it’s only a matter of time before Bethesda hits us with a fully-fledged modernised PC port of Doom 64. A thrilling development for a great number of people, we believe. Stay tuned for more.
