DOTA 2’s console commands and cheats might not help you too much in official ranked matches, but they can aid in making private games a bit more fun and practicing your skills in a more relaxed environment.
Given its competitive focus, it shouldn’t be surprising that use of DOTA 2 cheats isn’t tolerated in ranked PvP matches. The vast majority of its console commands are relegated to use in private lobbies but, even so, they’re well worth keeping an eye on, which is why we’ve compiled the list below.
DOTA 2 Console Commands and Cheats
DOTA 2 has a bit of a different approach to console commands and cheats, offering two avenues of inputting them while in private lobbies.
Having the Enable Cheats option ticked in any of these lobbies allows you to simply input cheats via the chat window, accessible by simply pressing the Enter key.
You’ve likely used it to send other players the customary “glhf” greeting when matches start.
In addition to this, DOTA 2 console commands require a bit of extra work before you can use them. They use different syntax but share many effects with the cheats mentioned above.
If you’re a console purist, you’ll need to manually activate it by finding DOTA 2 in your steam library, right-clicking on it, and selecting Properties.
In the General tab, under Launch Options, simply type in “-console” without the quotation marks. You should then be able to bring up the console in-game by pressing the \ key.
Below, you’ll find a list of DOTA 2 cheats and console commands covering a handful of useful effects.
The text on the left side of the slash should be typed in the chat window, while that on the right side is meant for the in-game console.
