Dune: Awakening is shaping up to be everything fans of the franchise could hope for. With an expansive world to explore and survive in, and even the ability to summon sandworms, there’s plenty to keep players engaged.
Ahead of the full game’s launch in 2025, early hands-on tests have given us a glimpse of the range and variety of weapons that will be available, giving us an idea of the tools we will have to survive in the harsh deserts of Arrakis.
Maula Pistol
This pistol is a lightweight sidearm that uses light darts for ammo. While it is reliable, with decent accuracy and a fast reload speed, its range is severely limited.
Spitdart Rifle
The Spitdart Rifle is the first long-range weapon introduced in the game, utilising heavy darts for significant damage. This semi-automatic rifle delivers excellent stopping power, but its slow rate of fire and small clip size mean it requires precise aim and frequent reloading. The rifle can be used with or without a scope, providing flexibility for different combat situations.
Gauss Rifle
The Gauss Rifle seems to be the most common weapon in Dune: Awakening. While many specifics remain unknown, including its ammunition type and the level of customization available, its prevalence suggests it will be a staple for players navigating the harsh environment of Arrakis.
M11 SMG
The M11 is a close-range, fast-firing SMG designed for indoor combat. It features minimal recoil and deals decent damage, though its effective range is likely limited compared to other weapons in the game.
Rocket Launcher
Details about the rocket launcher are still scarce, but it has made appearances in several gameplay trailers and snippets. It was also spotted on display in one of the vendor shops during Gamescom’s gameplay demos. What we do know is that it won’t feature a lock-on system, as Funcom has confirmed there will be no lock-on weapons in the game. It could be useful for taking down Ornithopter.
Lasgun
The Lasgun has only been seen as a reward in a gameplay demo, and its performance remains a mystery for now.
Minigun
The minigun, which can be mounted on vehicles or used independently, is a high-fire rate, high-damage weapon designed to unleash a barrage of bullets on tanks, vehicles, or large groups of enemies. It’s still unclear whether players can equip the minigun by default or if it will only be available in specific situations within the game world.
LMG
Little is known about the LMG, however, it was spotted in the menu of a vendor during a Gamescom demo.
Scatter Gun
Spotted in some promotional videos for the game, the Scatter Gun appears to be a default shotgun of sorts with quite a long range. Although we don’t know if the gun is effective at those kinds of distances.
Scrap Knife
The Scrap Knife serves as the game’s default melee weapon, offering a fast attack speed but limited range compared to other weapons.
CHOAM Sword
The CHOAM Sword is a longer-range melee weapon that delivers more powerful strikes compared to the standard knife, though its slower swing speed is likely a trade-off. We’ve caught glimpses of this sword in brief gameplay snippets.
All of these weapons have been confirmed and featured in gameplay, while others have appeared only in concept art. It remains unclear if weapons like the Longsword or Spears have made it into the final game. Each weapon can be crafted and enhanced with various materials, and some will come in multiple rarities.
As we approach the game’s release and more public betas are held, we can expect to see even more weapons unveiled.
