Dune: Spice Wars is set to fully launch on September 14th, after an extensive year in early access. Funcom and Shiro Games revealed the release date this morning, revealing that Patch 1.0 will come with the House Ecaz faction.
The full release marks the sixth content update for Shiro Games’ 4X strategy since the game entered early access, and with this update, players will witness a total of six factions vying for control over Dune.
Dune: Spice Wars Update 1.0 Release Date
Dune: Spice Wars will fully launch on the 14th of September. We found that in the early days of the early access experience, Dune Spice Wars set “a sturdy foundation and a good amount of 4X flavor interwoven in its RTS core, but there are also times when things felt a little too slow or repetitive.”
Shiro Games did an exceptional job of listening to player feedback during the early access period and managed to improve most of the issues we had with the early build, it’s now well worth checking out.
The newly introduced House Ecaz artfully expands its influence across the harsh landscape of Arrakis, where the sun’s blaze and menacing sandworms are omnipresent threats. Their “renowned artworks not only add to their prestige but also give them significant leverage in the Landsraad”. This allows them to rival the political might of the Atreides.
The game is currently priced at €29.99, but will increase to €34.99 when it launches out of Early Access. The update that arrives on the 14th of September will take up about 4GB of space. House Atreides, House Harkonnen, House Corrino, The Fremen, The Smugglers, and the new addition House Ecaz are the main factions in the game.
We asked Shiro Games about the possibility of adding the Ordos faction, although there don’t appear to be any plans as it’s not really a house that was ever mentioned in any of the novels. The faction first appeared in the Dune Encyclopedia.
“Ordos, as familiar to many players, is a fictional house conceived and brought to life by Westwood Studios, responsible for several Dune RTS games in the 90’s and 00’s. While both games draw from the same IP, those titles are owned by a different company. As a result, there are no intentions to incorporate them into Dune: Spice Wars.” said Shiro Games.
Currently, Dune: Spice Wars does not offer modding support. However, it might be introduced in the future, along with new DLC, console ports, and support for GeForce Now and Steam Deck.
