Elden Ring’s world is full of deadly enemies and fearsome bosses that players will inevitably have to face if they plan on seeing the Tarnished’s journey to its end. But unlike FromSoftware’s previous game, which didn’t include a multiplayer component, a co-op mode will allow you to team up with fellow Tarnished as you explore the Lands Between.
Elden Ring’s co-op mode was confirmed in 2021 and showcased in November’s gameplay preview, giving us an idea of what we can expect. That being said, the developer didn’t dive too deeply into how it works just yet and we will have to wait until closer to launch to learn more about potential limitations and hidden features.
Elden Ring Co-op Support
Elden Ring’s co-op mode lets you summon other players in your world and tackle both world content and dungeons alongside them. The gameplay preview didn’t make it clear if the signs used for summoning in Dark Souls also make a return, the player character’s ally seemingly materializing in front of them, albeit near a Site of Grace.
The players who join your game look less ghostly this time around, can use emotes to communicate, but also come with their own gear and abilities. The footage shown saw a party of two traversing an autumnal forest. Both characters used stealth to get past some lesser enemies before encountering the boss guarding the area.
You can tackle bosses together, making use of the various abilities each character has access to, but there’s a good chance that you won’t be able to summon your horse if you plan to do things in co-op.
It’s unclear at the moment how Elden Ring’s co-op mode handles progress or if those who join instantly leave upon killing bosses or completing dungeons.
