Publisher Electronic Arts today confirmed that its Montreal-based Motive studio is working on a new single-player Iron Man game.
The team behind EA’s third-person action-adventure Iron Man project is led by Olivier Proulx – who also worked on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy – and will feature an original story “that taps into the rich history of Iron Man, channeling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark.”
This is also just the first of several new games resulting from EA and Marvel’s new collaboration, although no details about the other projects were shared at this time.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with the talented team at Motive Studio to bring their original vision of one of Marvel’s most important, powerful and beloved characters,” said Bill Rosemann, Vice President and Creative Director at Marvel Games. “Their experience delivering both established entertainment worlds and thrilling gameplay – combined with their authentic passion for the armored icon – will fuel our quest to deliver a love letter to a legendary hero in the form of the ultimate Iron Man video game.”
“It’s an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to make a video game based on one of the most iconic Super Heroes in entertainment today,” said Olivier Proulx, Executive Producer. “We have a great opportunity to create a new and unique story that we can call our own. Marvel is encouraging us to create something fresh. We have a lot of freedom, which is so engaging for the team.”
Motive previously worked on Star Wars: Battlefront II and developed Star Wars: Squadrons. The latter was a single-player game in which you alternated between the role of starfighter pilots fighting for the New Republic and the Empire.
Needless to say, the developer is no stranger to games with a robust flying component. That experience is likely to translate well to its next project, since there’s a good chance we’ll soar through the skies whenever we get to play as Tony Stark.
EA’s new Iron Man game is currently in pre-production, so it’s safe to assume that we won’t see it launching in the near future. Motive is currently growing its team and you can apply for several open positions on the publisher’s website.
