Elite Dangerous: Odyssey’s Alpha has entered Phase 3 today, expanding its playable galaxy and shifting focus towards the exploration of undiscovered planets. Accompanying them is the new Exobiology career path.
Phase 3 expands the playable area in Elite Dangerous Odyssey’s Alpha to no less than 50 light years, which should give you a fair few extra places to visit. Players can now experience “First Footfall” when they arrive on any of the game’s newly discovered planets before anyone else.
Since the expansion’s main feature is on-foot exploration, the Exobiology career path will see you landing on planets and sampling their organic life. Before doing so, you’ll need to equip yourself with a Supratech Artemis explorer suit and a Genetic Sampler tool.
Phase 3 lets you sample any vegetation you encounter planetside. To narrow down areas worth exploring, the Detailed Surface Scanner has received some enhancements and is now able to point out the spots able to support organic life through handy heatmaps.
The Genetic Sampler tool comes with a scanner that lets you know which nearby specimens are suitable. Once you’ve gathered three samples, you can sell the data to Vista Genomics when you visit the port.
Elite Dangerous: Odyssey’s Alpha Phase 3 is now live and also rebalances all available missions and rewards. The long-awaited expansion is slated to fully release on PC in late spring.
