Funcom has announced that it’s partnering up with Eleon Game Studios to help provide funding and publishing services for its Empyrion game, an open-world sci-fi survival sim.
The extra funding and resources will allow Eleon Game Studios to begin work on the next title in the Empyrion universe, while putting together the final touches on the planned Dark Faction expansion, which is due to be released on Steam and the Epic Games Store on the 6th February.

Eleon Game Studios is a small development team from Lausanne, Switzerland, and has been working solely on Empyrion - Galactic Survival since its release in 2015. The game reached a peak of 8,829 concurrent players back in 2020 and has had a fairly consistent community of players.
The hope is that with Funcom’s help, Empyrion can take on a new leash of life and reach its full potential, something that extra funds and marketing can help solve, especially for a game that has favourable reviews on Steam.
”In my opinion, Empyrion - Galactic Survival has not yet reached its full potential.” said Eric Lucas, one of Eleon Game Studios’ founders. “With Funcom’s deep expertise in survival and space games, they are the perfect partner to allow us to scale up the Empyrion universe to its complete original vision with a big step up in quality.”
The Dark Faction expansion will help bring players back to the open-world survival sim, although it’s going to be “perfect for both newcomers and veterans of Empyrion alike” says developers Eleon Game Studios.
It will “offer new mechanics, including improved melee combat, new materials to build with, and mysteries to discover.”

Empyrion - Galactic Survival Dark Faction is launching on Steam and the Epic Games Store on 6th February.
