Enshrouded has a diverse array of non-player characters (NPCs) ready to assist you in various ways once you’ve recused them. These NPCs can aid you in crafting items, provide access to new structures and tools, and furnish you with vital information regarding locations on the map and ongoing quests.
We’ve identified five NPC companions scattered across the map for you to rescue and bring back to your main base. We recommend constructing individual houses for each character, enabling them to reside comfortably and provide enhanced crafting items. The NPCs you’ll encounter include a Farmer, Blacksmith, Alchemist, Hunter, and Carpenter.
Enshrouded NPCs and Locations
We will go over the full roster of characters you can encounter as you traverse the diverse terrain of Embervale. Conveniently, each of these characters will ultimately appear as quest markers on your map, so you shouldn’t have too much difficulty location the towers holding them.
Before embarking on your journey to locate the lost NPCs, we suggest you craft the Grappling Hook and Glider at the Crafting Table. You don’t need these handy tools for all of them, but the difficulty and time required will be greatly reduced with these tools. Double Jump would help too, but you will need to level up a few times to get access to it on your Skilltree.
- Top Tip: The Drying Rack, Charcoal Kiln, and Forge can be great places to store excess items during the early stages of the game
Here’s the full list of NPC’s and their locations, along with screenshots of the locations marked on the world map:
- Blacksmith
- Alchemist
- Hunter
- Carpenter
- Farmer
- Bard
- Collector
Oswald Anders the Blacksmith
Difficutly: Easy
Oswald Anders is likely the first NPC you’ll encounter in Enshrouded. He’s quite straightforward to find and rescue; no special tools like the Glider or double jump are necessary, though they can significantly shorten the journey. The Blacksmith’s location is just north of your initial base. Cross the Braelyn Bridge, then take a left. You’ll find a scavenger outpost with a tower at its rear, and Oswald Anders is right inside. By the way, this spot is also an excellent place to collect Metal Scrap.
Returning Anders to your camp enables you to build The Forge, which is essential for producing Metal Sheets. Additionally, constructing the Charcoal Kiln will assist in fueling the creation of these sheets. He also opens up access to nails, the raising fighter set of armour, fur armour set and more. The Ancient Vault containing him doesn’t have any traps or obstacles that need the Grappling Hook or Glider.
Balthazar The Alchemist
Difficulty: Easy
Reaching Balthazar is somewhat challenging since his location is farther from the base than, say, the blacksmith. However, once you arrive, rescuing him is relatively straightforward. You will encounter only scavenger enemies, making it an excellent quest for gathering scrap metal as well. When you’re at your home base you will want to travel to the right, heading over to the first scavenger camp with mineshaft, and keep going past this and continue until you reach the first mountain with a Flame Sanctum, you then want to head north until you find an Ancient Obelisk. Once you find this head a little bit further north and then you should find it.
Balthazar introduces a variety of crafting equipment to your arsenal, including the vital Grinding Stones, essential for creating Bonemeal. With these additions, your travels become easier as you can now craft health potions, survival flasks, various types of ammunition for the Spiritual Cane, and resources like Bug Dust, Glow Dust, and Shroud Cores. Additionally, gear such as the Alchemist Apprentice armor and more will also be available once you find upgrades by completing quests.
Athalan Skree The Hunter
Difficulty: Moderate
Rescuing Athalan Skree isn’t overly challenging, but you will need the grappling hook to navigate past some lava in the tower where she’s held captive. Along your journey, you’ll primarily encounter scavenger people and a few creatures resembling Wookies. You must again head north across the Brooklyn Bridge, but this time you will want to take a right for a long time until you reach the ancient vault that has Balthazar inside. Watch out for traps!
Skree is extremely useful to have back at your base as she opens up access to the small backpack, which will extend your inventory space. You can then build The Drying Rack, which will allow you to farm Dried Fur if you can find enough Salt and Animal Fur. You can craft better torches, arrows, and the Ranger, Marksmen and Scout armour sets. Carpets for your home too!
Emily Fray The Farmer
Difficulty: Hard
Reaching Emily Fray is quite an adventure; she’s located just above the Alchemist, through a cave passage, and then northward past an Elixir Well. To navigate successfully, you’ll need to skillfully take advantage of the Glider, Double Jump, and Grappling Hook. The Ancient Vault is laden with numerous traps and dangerous lava pits. One particularly challenging segment requires a combined use of all three tools and abilities. Although it took us some a few tries, the key is to double jump, employ the grappling hook, and then glide across to the other side.
Initially, Emily Fray doesn’t unlock a wide range of options in the game. However, she is essential for gaining access to popcorn, which significantly aids in stamina recharge, adding over 7+ to your stats. You can begin farming by making use the seedbed production place, and can now craft Farm Soil, enhancing your capability to cultivate plants.
Cade Hawthorn The Carpenter
Difficulty: Hard
Cade Hawthorn is nearer than The Farmer, yet navigating the most challenging Ancient Vault can be tough due to the multitude of enemies you’ll encounter. The area is guarded by some formidable shadowy wraith-like creatures, against whom we found the Spiritual Cane Firebolt to be highly effective. Be cautious of the two energy beams they launch at you! The Carpenter’s location is to the left of your homebase, beyond the Saline Quarry and further past the Shroud root. Continue heading left, but be wary of the lava terrain. You’ll eventually reach Morwenna, a village that signals you’re getting close. Keep moving left until you come across a bridge leading into an Enshrouded area. It’s here that the gauntlet of enemies commences.
Hawthorn is crucial for those looking to enhance their homes with superior doors, windows, tables, improved fireplaces, beds, and even a bathroom. A significant advantage is the ability to create magical storage boxes; items stored within these can be used for crafting purposes at the base, eliminating the need to carry everything. This significantly reduces much of the busy work at home. The Kiln is another important production place to build, although you will need Lumps of clay before you can do so.
Alden Crowley The Collector
Difficulty: Easy
Alden Crowley, a Craftsperson you discover within the Hollow Halls, focuses on dark magic and has the unique ability to craft necromantic items. If you talk to the Collector he’ll offer fetch quests to venture into the Hollow Halls for key items to discover. Crowley was added to the game in the Hollow Halls update, which was released in March.
You can craft items like the Revelwood Bone Key, Ectoplasm Press, Nomad Highlands Bone Key, Kindlewastes Bone Key, Ectoplasm Soup, Bone Channel Spell, Skull Summoning Vessel, Necromancer’s Skull Summoning Vessel, Giant Bone Arrow and more.
Valory the Silverstrings (Bard)
Difficulty: Medium
Valory the Silverstrings is a Bard craftsperson that allows you to craft musical instruments and other materials. Playing music adds to the rested buff duration, and can even be used to replenish it while exploring the world of Embervale.
We’ll keep you informed and update this guide should Keen Games introduce additional characters in future updates.
