Learning how to complete the Alchemist’s Mortar quest in Enshrouded is a key part of unlocking new crafting recipes for your friendly bearded NPC pal.
This survivor quest counts among those you pick up from the Alchemist himself after rescuing him from the dungeon in which he’s trapped. Like many others, it requires reaching a potentially unexplored location and retrieving an item.
How to Complete The Alchemist's Mortar in Enshrouded
Completing The Alchemists’ Mortar Survivor Quest involves physically retrieving the mortar from a tower found in a settlement named Lone Thistle.
To get there, head north from the Mistbury Catacombs, which house the Queen’s Tomb, or east from the Ancient Vault that houses the Farmer. The screenshot above points to the exact location you need to reach.
When approaching the settlement from the south or southeast, you’ll enter its lower part, which is covered in shroud and full of corrupted enemies.
The mortar awaits inside The Alchemist’s tower, which you’ll find by taking a set of stairs leading up to the settlement’s upper portion.
As soon as you enter the tower, you can take the stairs down to the basement. That’s where you’ll find the Alchemist’s mortar you need to retrieve. Unfortunately, it’s locked behind a door that cannot be manually opened.
The walls around it are also impenetrable but, thankfully, there is a way to get through. To do so, head back up to the entrance. Climb three more sets of stairs until you spot a door blocked by wooden planks.
Destroy them with a weapon of your choice and head outside. Turn to the right and you’ll find another door blocked by wooden planks which you should also forcefully remove. We would recommend the axe for this task.
Doing so allows you to head inside, where you’ll find a button. Press it to open the door in the basement, then head down and collect the mortar.
With it in your inventory, waltz back to your base, place it near the Alchemist NPC, and talk to him. This is how you complete Enshrouded’s The Alchemists’ Mortar quest.
As a reward, you now have access to more crafting recipes, one of which lets you build additional mortars using the following materials:
- 5 sand
- 10 lump of clay
- 3 sulfur
- 2 nitrate
- 5 charcoal
