Everspace 2 landed on the more explosive side of space-related Gamescom 2019 reveals and, although its release date was quite far away at that point, fans of the original were sure to be excited by the changes ushered in with the sequel.
That’s because Everspace 2 ditches the roguelike aspect of the original in favor of an open world. Here’s everything we know about Everspace 2, including details on gameplay, story and multiplayer.
Everspace 2 Release Date
After a fairly lengthy stay in early access, Everspace 2 has locked in its release date to April 6, 2023. The announcement also saw developer Rockfish confirming that the game will no longer launch on last-gen consoles, aiming for a summer 2023 release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Story-wise, Everspace 2 will be a rags-to-riches type of journey that will also net you some friends on the side, who will be eager to help you with various in-game activities.
Everspace 2 Gameplay
We’ve already mentioned it but, in case it’s not clear yet, the elephant in the room when talking about Everspace 2’s gameplay is the open-world approach that replaces the roguelike progression and instanced levels of the original.
Everspace 2 will bring back the ship mobility of the first game while expanding the roster of available ships. While the game’s focus remains blowing enemies to smithereens with a varied and upgradable arsenal, the open-world nature of the sequel also lets you roam in between worlds, searching for alien races, mysteries to uncover or traders.
Traders sell loot, which can be obtained from other sources as well, and which is used to upgrade your ships or change up their playstyle. There will be several loot rarities which provide better and better bonuses. High-risk, high-reward areas hide special gear, however, these are where you’re more likely to encounter very difficult foes.
Speaking of foes, you should expect to face drones, fighters, heavy bombers, powerful gunships, and even massive capital vessels. Each enemy has a level attached to it and tackling those above your own can provide a significant challenge. That being said, completing activities and blasting foes to bits earns you experience which, upon leveling up, grants welcome statistical bonuses.
Everspace 2 will also have some form of endgame which will feature “vicious encounters and brutal challenges.” Other spacefarers befriended during the campaign will grant benefits during the endgame, although developer Rockfish has yet to delve into its specifics.
Everspace 2 Multiplayer
According to its Steam page, Everspace 2 will focus entirely on its single-player component, not featuring any form of multiplayer, be it co-op or competitive.
Where can you buy Everspace 2 and how much does it cost?
On PC, Everspace 2 is available via Steam, Gog.com, and the Microsoft Store. Until February 20, 2023, you can pick it up for the price of $39.99/€38.99/£31.99. After that date, the price will increase to $49.99/€49.99/£44.99.
Everspace 2’s PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions will be available through their respective storefronts.
