In Evil Genius 2, your lair stretches across multiple floors, giving you quite a bit of building space to work with. But while you can switch between them from the very start of your playthrough, analyzing their layouts, you will first need to learn how to build stairs before your minions can access them.
The path to figuring out how to build stairs in Evil Genius 2 is a relatively short one, as they’re locked behind a Tier 2 research helpfully called Stairs. By the time you get to it, you should already have a working Laboratory and at least a few science minions to piece things together.
Once you’ve researched Stairs, it’s time to move on to building them. Go to your build menu, click on Corridor, then move to the Items tab, and select stairs. You’ll immediately notice that they take up quite a bit of space, so you may need to make larger corridor sections in certain parts of your lair.
When building stairs in Evil Genius 2, it’s not enough to consider the floor you’re starting from. They exclusively lead to the floor above or below – depending on which little green button you clicked when setting them up – and you’ll need to make sure that they’re set up above a section of the floor that you minions can mine through.
Before you turn it into a highly efficient base for evil deeds, each floor is covered in different types of stone. Mining through some of them won’t be possible until later research is unlocked, which takes time.
This is why looking at the floor layouts and designating spots for stairs early on is a good idea, as it can save you the headache of rearranging entire rooms when you realize you need that space to go down a floor.
Building stairs in Evil Genius 2 is required as part of a few objectives, including that of setting up your Doomsday Device.
If you’re playing on the Montañas Gemelas island, you’ll want to know that its lower floors are completely separated from each other, so you’ll need at least two sets of stairs to take advantage of all the available space.
